Lebanon for Development is launching an environmental initiative to help solve urgent crisis that Lebanon and its people are suffering from and which need to be addressed imperatively in a systematic manner by implementing successful pilot projects respectively in the 9 governorates/muhafazat of Lebanon (Beirut, Mount Lebanon, Keserwan-Jbeil, Beqaa, Baalbak-Hermel, Akkar, Nabatieh, North Lebanon, South Lebanon) preferably in the capital city/municipality of each governorate (respectively Beirut, Baabda, Jounieh, Zahleh, Baalbak, Halba, Nabatiye, Tripoli, Sidon) and then scaling up these pilot projects to cover all Lebanese territories.

Lebanon for Development will research and investigate already implemented successful projects when available and use all lessons learned from these projects to plan, design and implement its initiative in the most cost effective way using latest know-how, expertise, environmental friendly and relevant tools, technologies and products.

This initiative will collaborate with schools, universities, municipalities, union of municipalities, local NGOs and communities, trusted and reputed national NGOs, private sector in Lebanon and abroad and Lebanese professionals, experts and donors in Lebanon and in the Diaspora as well as UN agencies in Lebanon, International NGOs and International Donors. Ministries shall be contacted to ensure adequate implementation through the application, when requested and available, of recommended specifications, master plans guidelines, environmental impact assessments – EIAs, etc. and for the obtainment of permits and clearances as need be.

The initiative will cover the following sectors:

  • Solid Waste sorting at the source, recycling and disposal
  • Provision of Clean Electric Power
  • Sea shores and rivers cleaning
  • Flowering trees planting on Roofs and Streets’ sidewalks & medians
  • Re-forestation of all relevant land in Lebanon
  • Public health enhancement in public and private sectors
  • Preventive health national programs and campaigns

The initiative shall be designed and implemented with Lebanese brainpower, workforce and resources available locally or in the Lebanese Diaspora, whenever available and possible, thus creating job opportunities for Lebanese individuals and communities locally and abroad. Resorting to foreign expertise or suppliers will only occur when exceptionally needed.

Lebanon for Development team will plan, design, manage, coordinate and facilitate the implementation of these projects by mobilizing the relevant stakeholders, suppliers, experts on the matter and donors to secure the most cost effective and quality implementation and will involve the beneficiaries to empower them to play a proactive role in the sustainability of these projects.
