Lebanon for Development will be launching soon an initiative to address requests expressed by Lebanese residents and in the diaspora to contribute targeted donations to poor Lebanese individuals, families, local communities, local NGOs (serving the poor, orphans, disabled and elderly as well as all underserved communities) and public entities (municipalities, schools, health care centers, hospitals, public libraries, etc) all over Lebanon whether on the basis of philanthropy through financial and in-kind donations or on the basis of religious contributions (‘zakat’, ‘khums’, ‘sadaqa jariya’, other).

Lebanon for Development will research and investigate already successfully implemented similar or related initiatives/projects and social businesses when available and use all lessons learned from these projects to plan, design and implement its initiative in the most effective way using latest know-how, expertise and relevant tools.

This initiative will provide support and offer a platform for the poor and underserved Lebanese individuals, families, local communities, local NGOs (serving the poor, orphans, disabled and elderly as well as all underserved communities) and public entities (municipalities, schools, health care centers, hospitals, public libraries, etc) all over Lebanon, to express their needs in a transparent manner to potential donors. It will also provide donors in Lebanon and in the Diaspora with the data needed to connect them to needy individuals, families, local communities, local NGOs (serving the poor, orphans, disabled and elderly as well as all underserved communities) and public entities (municipalities, schools, health care centers, hospitals, public libraries, etc) all over Lebanon, yet preserving the anonymity of the donors if requested, in order to ensure that the full contributions reach the beneficiaries directly with no intermediaries.

The initiative will cover several types of contributions and projects and shall cover in a first phase the following, by way of example without being limited to that:

  1. Educational support: provision of scholarships to needy students at school and university levels
  2. Medical support: provision of medicines, medical supplies and funds to cover medical services and operations
  3. In-kind donations (books, furniture, food items, electronic devices, etc.)

In a second phase upgrading basic infrastructure works could be added:

  1. Digging authorized wells in villages
  2. Upgrading public health facilities
  3. Upgrading public schools
  4. Upgrading facilities serving orphans, disabled, elderly
  5. Upgrading homes of poor individuals and families
  6. Other

Lebanon for Development team shall plan, design, manage, coordinate and facilitate the implementation of this initiative by developing a personalized user friendly mobile application that will be used by both the beneficiaries, (who will be offered the opportunity to express, through this App, their needs and requests) and donors (who will be able to select, through this App, the beneficiaries that will receive their donations) thus ensuring a direct relation, communication and interface between donors and beneficiaries.

In order to implement successfully this initiative, Lebanon for Development shall partner with a well established Lebanese mobile apps developer that shares same social corporate responsibility values thus complementing the long experience of Lebanon for Development in humanitarian aid with technical expertise.
